Learn children’s first aid in 2 days
The 2-day Paediatric First Aid Course is designed for those who work in early years settings, with small children under 8 years old. The course covers OFSTED requirements for staff at Early Years Foundation Stage to be trained in Full Paediatric First Aid.
What’s covered?
The Paediatric First Aid Course enables individuals to:
- Understand the role and responsibility of a paediatric first-aider
- Assess an incident
- Manage an infant or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
- Manage an infant or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
- Recognise and assist an infant or child who is choking
- Manage an infant or child who is wounded and bleeding
- Manage an infant or child who is in shock
- Provide first aid to an infant or child with a suspected fracture or dislocation
- Provide first aid to an infant or child with a head, neck or back injury
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child with conditions affecting eyes, ears and nose
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child with a chronic medical condition
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat or cold
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child who has sustained an electric shock
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child with burns or scalds
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child who has been poisoned
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child who has been bitten or stung
Assessment and certification
Training is completed in line with Good Skills standards, accredited by the First Aid Industry Body. Individuals are assessed for practical skills throughout the course and first aid theory is tested through a short multiple-choice test. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion. This qualification lasts for 3 years. After 3 years your nominated first-aiders must retake the Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course to keep their qualification valid.
